Agricultural Cooperative of Noirmoutier was born May 6, 1945: tired of being exploited, the noirmoutrins peasants had decided to establish a working tool enabling them to pool all the resources and support mutualism, to better the future. For a long time, life on the island was punctuated in the fall with the seaweed collection on the shore, at Candlemas for early planting, and then in the spring with the uprooting. The creation of the Cooperative allowed to continue and to pass these traditions while becoming a promotional tool essential to the famous premieres varieties produced on the island. With it, the craftsmen farmers Noirmoutier carry high and far the reputation of their island while maintaining a thriving agricultural activity there. "If the Coop did not exist, we would not be there and there would be no agriculture on the island" evidenced members. Agricultural Cooperative Noirmoutier's 35 members spread over 400 hectares.
