Food safety

Friday 12 June 2015

Food safety aims to protect consumers. DGAL, the French Directorate-General for Food, coordinates this mission and oversees safety and quality throughout the entire food chain. The control process relies on existing European and French legislation, which ensures the consumer a high level of protection, while mindful of France’s gastronomic heritage. Traceability, autocontrols and quality assurance are just some of the tools available to operators within the sector to produce healthy foods.

Food safety in numbers:

  • 180,000 food hygiene inspections (restaurants, shops and processing)
  • 262,600 health certificates awarded to export animal products
